MMC, a sole proprietorship, is owned by me, Steve Witmer. This business, like many, started out as a part time after work gig.
I've been wrenching ever since I can remember....beginning with the family lawn mower and "helping Dad" with golf carts. Dad wasn't always keen on my "help", bailing me out when I couldn't quite get it. My 1st motorcycle, a Sachs 125, didn't impress him at all. Parts availability was scarce. We made all kinds of different parts in between very short rides. I had no idea how many of the lessons I learned would serve me so greatly in the future.
So it began. My mechanical career. From Dad, to Vo-tech, Rohrer's True Value, Autohaus, USMC and finally High Associates. (That's the condensed version).
In 1991 my brother, Mike, and I bought the current location from John Sagerer. I registered the name Maximum Maintenance Company in 1994 and in 1995 we'd received all the state and township approvals to operate a garage.
We'd been doing inspections and mechanical repairs, in addition to our full time jobs. All work is done by appointment and we've always relied on "word of mouth" advertising.
Mike is a machinist and tool & die maker fulltime for Tyco in Mount Joy. He has alot of practical mechanical knowledge and brings alot of machining experience to Maximum Maintenance Company. The pieces he can produce from the lathe and mill are impressive. Even more so, when these pieces can't be bought. Ever try to locate a double threaded stud for an Ecadorian Land Cruiser late on a Friday night? Don't sweat it - Mike will just make it!
He endured me growing up and got the same lessons from Mom & Dad. He couldn't help but get a mechanical background, especially with motorcycles. Going to Tower City and working on dirt bikes is a Witmer tradition. We have been doing it since 1985. Riding and wrecking are great life experiences, both for repairing and riding. We've have had our share, both on & off the street. Mike has expanded this to include track days at Pocono and Summit Point.
In October 2008 I ended my career with High to continue the growth of MMC. Expansion of the garage included 2 additional bays and a 1st floor office and customer lounge area. We are now able to manage daily maintenance and work on larger projects without the shuffling vehicles in and out of the bays.
